Why You Have to know your CHampionship windows
I am a big bears fan and their success for the last 3 seasons ha s been pretty boring they
Have been super mediocre this is there last 3 seasons
Record PlayoffsDraft pick 12-4Lost in 1st roundTraded it to the raiders8-8 Missed playoffs Traded it to the raiders 8-8Lost in first roundPick 20
Of course they made the playoffs 2 out of the three years and Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace kept their jobs but none of those 3 seasons did anyone think the bears had any chance at the superbowl and the bears had nothing to build on. My theory is that you shouldn't be mediocre and you have to know when you have a championship Window and when you don't. If you do have a window you have to go all in even if that means trading some promising young talent or a lot of draft capital. But if you don't have that championship window you have to know that and maybe reset your team in a way to get some draft capital and some young studs there should be no reason a good player 30+ should be on a Mediocre to bad team . Look at what the Thunder did. They had Paul George and Russel Westbrook and realized they would get to the first or second round of the playoffs every year so they made two smart trades to turn superstars that couldn't get them past the second round into…
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Danillo Gallinari
5 first round picks
4 pick swaps
Chris Paul
Then they got Chris paul he led to the playoffs then because they were smart and they knew they were in a state of rebuilding they shipped chris paul off to the Phoenix Suns for
Kelly Oubre
Ricky Rubio
Ty Jerome
Jalen Lecque
FIrst Round Pick
And now after those three trades and a few other small ones they have 16 First round picks and 13 second round picks through 2027 and have a flourishing star in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who is averaging 23 points 5 rebounds 6.5 assists and is shooting 50.6% from the field and 40.7% from behind the arc.
Another good example is the New Orleans Pelicans who had been mediocre with Anthony Davis and were forced into a trade where they gave Anthony Davis. For 3 first round picks, an awesome young talent in Brandon Ingram and good role players in Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart. After that they lucked out and got the number one overall draft pick in Zion Williamson who was the most hyped rookie since Lebron James. Before the season started the Pelicans traded Jrue Holiday for 2 first round picks 2 pick swaps and Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams. Now the Pelicans are in a great position with a core of Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson and 13 first round draft picks through 2027.
In conclusion I think that teams have to seize their championship windows and realize when they dont have one.
